Valentine's Day Presents For Men From Very Traditional to Creative

Buying presents for men, especially for Valentine's Day, is very difficult. Trust me, I know, I'm an expert. Here is a quick guide to picking a great gift.

First consider the status of your relationship and what you want to accomplish with your gift. If your relationship is just getting established or perhaps you want to establish a relationship, then the same types of gifts that get your attention will get his. We are talking traditional here, with a few twists.

Flowers are great gifts and will get his attention, but I do not recommend the traditional long stemmed red roses. Try something more "manly" for a lack of better words. Blue or other exotic roses as well as exotic flowers work well, as do imaginative bouquets. For example a bouquet in a large beer mug, perhaps with their favorite sporting team logo, is a very thoughtful and creative gift.

Beware of delivery too. Flowers delivered to you as a surprise at work may be great, but he may be embarrassed at such a public delivery. Not all men are, for example my ex John, but some are.

Food is also a traditional gift, especially chocolates and fruit baskets. I would skip the chocolate for men unless he's a confirmed chocolateholic. Fruit can work well, but not for all well. Does he eat fruit regularly? My favorite food choices are a gift certificate to a nice restaurant or a home cooked meal. If you give a gift certificate and he doesn't ask for your accompaniment, dump him! Give him a while though as men use gift certificates fairly slowly as a rule. Cooking him a meal, or at least the offer, always gets a man's attention. I think through my stomach and so do many men.

If the relationship is already established then you can be more creative. Lingerie works extremely well. It should be lingerie for you, and you'd better be wearing it. Feel free to be creative. Buying him a Borat style thong probably won't work though, but it may.

Travel is great gift, although it requires advance planning usually. What could be more romantic than spending time together? Whether it's a quick weekend getaway, two weeks in Europe, or a Caribbean Cruise, traveling together is great.

One more hint. Most men don't expect much for Valentine's Day so anything thoughtful works wonders. Also remember to be grateful for your gifts, even if they are boneheaded and all wrong. Sometimes it's the thought that counts.
